Did you know the number of gig workers has risen 15% since 2010? With the upheaval caused by the pandemic, it's likely that even more US workers will enter their ranks.

In case you're not familiar with the term, gig workers forgo the traditional full-time employee status in favor of short-term "gigs." They may make deliveries, do handyman work, use their car for ridesharing, or provide other services.

The hours are flexible (work whenever you want) and the money can be great. Drivers, for example, can earn around $20/hour, depending on their location.

Are you looking for jobs you can do with your car in your area? There's no better time to jump on the gig bandwagon and start earning some extra cash.

We’ll cover 10 great ways to make money driving your car. Keep reading to learn more!

Make Deliveries

One of the most obvious ways to earn money with your car is by delivering groceries, restaurant orders, packages, or other goods to customers. Here are six reputable companies to consider.

  1. Postmates

Postmates makes it easy to make money driving. Simply sign up, download their app, and log in whenever you want to work. You'll deliver anything from local stores or restaurants to customers who live in your area.

There are no fees or time commitments, and you get to take home 100% of your earnings. Some drivers are earning up to $25 per hour, making this gig well worth your time!

You can cash out instantly anytime you need cash, or you can set up weekly automatic deposits.

  1. Favor

Do you live in the Lone Star state? Favor is a courier service operating in 50 Texas cities. When you sign up, you become a "runner," which is more like a personal assistant than a delivery driver.

You can choose to work full-time or part-time delivering groceries, dry cleaning, or whatever else your customers need. Runners earn anywhere from $10 to $18 per hour and get to keep 100% of their tips.

  1. Shipt

Do you have a car less than 15 years old and the ability to lift 25 pounds? If so, you can sign up with Shipt to shop for and deliver groceries to customers' homes.

You'll need an insulated cooler bag and a good knowledge of produce. You'll also need to be able to pass a background check. Shoppers with Shipt earn anywhere from $15 to $25 per hour.

  1. Instacart

A similar service is Instacart. Shoppers can choose to buy and deliver groceries for customers, working as many hours and at any time they like. The pay is per "batch," which factors in the number of items, the type of items, and the driving distance.

There's also a "shop only" option where you sign up for scheduled shifts (up to 29 hours per week) and prepare orders at one store. These shoppers are paid hourly and no car is required since they're not making the actual deliveries.

  1. Amazon Flex

Everyone orders from Amazon these days, so it's no surprise they're willing to hire drivers who can make deliveries with their own car. Sign up with Amazon Flex and you can earn between $18 and $25 per hour delivering Amazon packages.

How does their program work? You can plan your week by reserving time blocks in advance, or you can pick them each day based on your availability.

  1. Door Dash

Door Dash is available in over 4,000 cities, with more being added all the time. "Dashers" work as their own boss to make deliveries whenever and wherever they want.

There are no vehicle restrictions or inspections required, making it easy to get started. You'll also see exactly how much you'll earn before you accept any order.

Become a Driver

Another way to boost your emergency fund or earn extra money is to sign up with a rideshare program. These are the two most popular ones today.

  1. Uber

Uber drivers make money driving on their own schedule. They can work as much or as little as they want, accepting only the rideshare offers they want to take.

To become an Uber driver, you'll need a clean driving record and a car in good working order.

  1. Lyft

A similar concept is Lyft, which also provides ground transportation options to customers. You keep 100% of your tips and can also take advantage of "Prime Time" pricing during peak hours, allowing you to earn even more.

Lyft also provides additional insurance policies, at no cost to the driver. Like Uber, you'll need a good vehicle and driving record to qualify.

Rent Your Car

Did you know you can earn money with your car without even driving it? Instead, you can rent it out and let someone else do the driving!

  1. Getaround

Getaround is a ridesharing platform operating in major US cities. It allows you to rent out your car or truck by the day or even by the hour.

Simply sign up, list your car during times you don't use it, and start earning! All Getaround trips are covered with insurance and come with 24/7 customer support.

  1. Turo

Why let your car sit unused in the driveway when you can rent it out and earn extra cash? People who rent their car on Turo earn an average of $706 a month, simply from allowing others to drive it.

You can list your car for free and set your own rules and pricing. Rentals include liability insurance and damage protection, giving you peace of mind when you hand over the keys.

Bottom Line: There Are Lots of Jobs You Can Do With Your Car

As long as you've got a car, you can make money driving.

The gig economy has changed the way we view working and earning money — for the better! Whether you need a little side cash or you're trying to replace your full-time income, there are plenty of flexible jobs you can do with your car.
